How do I upsell items with Slide Cart?
This article provides a detailed guide on the creation, implementation, and functionality of the upsells feature, designed to help generate and increase AOV in your Shopify store.
Within the Slide Cart app, we have three main blocks for the enablement, configuration, visualization, and implementation of upsells both inside and outside the cart.
You can access the first block, responsible for enabling the feature, by navigating to Slide Cart Dashboard → Cart Editor → Cart Features → Upsell Display.

Once there, you will see the text “Upsell Recommendations” with a toggle on the right-hand side that controls its activation.

Within this block, sections such as “Headline Text,” “Number of Upsells to Display,” “Placement,” among others, can be adjusted according to your desired final result. You will also find the Fallback option, which allows you to display general upsells for all your products without the need to set a specific condition based on the product.

Note: Fallback upsells only apply to products that do not have a specific (condition-based) upsell assigned. If a product does have a specific upsell configured, it will take priority over the fallback upsells.
The second block for creating upsells can be found again in the Slide Cart Dashboard → Upsells section.

There, you will find the “Create Upsell” option. Once you click on it, you’ll be able to “Select a product” and “Select recommendations.”
The first option refers to the condition (the product for which you want the upsell to be displayed), and the second refers to the upsell product that will be shown.

The third and final block can be found in Slide Cart Dashboard → Amp AI.
This block is available for users who have Lifetimely by AMP installed on their store. It analyzes data from your connected channels to generate tailored recommendations. Once you approve a recommendation, Amp AI automates the changes directly in the connected system (for example, adjusting ad campaign budgets on Meta or creating new upsells in Slide Cart).

Additional Settings (within the first block – Upsell Display)
Within the Upsell Display block, you’ll also find additional settings that allow you to further define how your upsells behave and appear inside the cart.
Placement:
- Inside Cart (Default)
With this option, your upsells will appear inside the cart.

Outside cart
This option allows you to take advantage of the full screen by displaying your upsells outside the cart when customers browse on their laptops or desktops. For a better shopping experience, when the screen gets too small (mobile, tablets, etc.), the upsells will default back to inside the cart.

Upsell Button Action
Here, you can choose what happens when a customer clicks on an upsell product:
- Add to cart – The product is immediately added to the cart (default option and typically the highest-converting).
- View product – Redirects the customer to the product page so they can review more details before adding it.
Display Settings
- Show compare at prices – Displays the original price with a strikethrough when the product is on sale.
- Show upsell even if item is in cart – Keeps the upsell visible even after the customer has added it (recommended for frequently repurchased items).
Styling (for “Outside cart” placement)
If you’re using the Outside cart placement, you can customize the background color to better match your brand.
Simply go to the Styles section within Upsell Display and select your preferred color using the Next to Cart placement background color picker.

Best Practices
A few recommendations to help you get the most out of this feature:
- If you have Lifetimely by AMP installed, consider starting with Amp AI, as it helps remove guesswork and continuously optimizes recommendations.
- Use manual mapping when you want to create strategic product pairings (for example, pairing a phone case with a phone).
- Set up fallback upsells to ensure you’re not missing opportunities to increase AOV when a product doesn’t have a condition-based upsell.
- Test different layouts (Carousel vs. Stacked) and monitor which one performs better for your audience.
- Enable “Show compare at prices” if you frequently run promotions.
Migration from the Old System
If you previously used:
- Advanced Upsells → Your manual product mappings are now available on the main Upsells page.
- Basic Upsells → These are now configured as Fallback upsells within the Upsell Display settings.
All existing configurations were preserved during the migration process.
