Offering several Free Gift tiers on the Rewards Bar.
You might have noticed that when you offer two or more Free Gift tiers, only one product is given for free while the others are charged at full price; this can happen due to Shopify's limitations on applying and combining discounts. (For full information, you can read Shopify's guide on discount combinations.)
Our Free Gift tier relies on Shopify's Buy X Get Y discounts to give the product as free. This type of discount adds a tag to both the triggering product and the reward product:
Since Shopify does not allow multiple product discounts to be applied to the same product (line item), once the triggering product has a discount assigned (e.g., the first-tier gift), it will not apply a second discount (e.g., the second-tier gift). Therefore, Shopify will choose which eligible discounts will apply based on the best possible discount for your customers.
There's a workaround for the second or third Free Gift tier to work, but there are some limitations that we can not override due to Shopify's discount policies.
The tiers' configuration in our app's dashboard will be the same. (If you need more information, you can check the steps in our guide, Tiered Rewards.)
The trick is to include all the free gift products in the Customer Gets section of the new discount for the second tier. This means there should be two items reflected here, one from the first Free gift tier and one from the second Free Gift Tier.
Also, make sure that the number of items on the discounts equals the number of gifts you will give for both tiers. If you only give one free product per tier, the quantity should be two if you have two Free Gift Tiers.
This way, when both free gifts are added to the cart, the discount from the second tier replaces the discount from the first tier. Since the discount from the second tier contains both products, your customers should get both for free.
Limitations:
- All the free gift products must be added to the cart for the second and above discounts to work.
- This will work best if you offer only one free gift per tier. If you offer more than one free product per tier, then the quantity on the second and other tiers needs to be increased.
- Customers can choose several of the same product instead of one of each. Since the quantity is set to two or more, your customers could add two products from the first tier instead of having the product from the first tier and the product from the second tier.
