How do I upsell items with Slide Cart?
Our premium plans (Growth, Pro, and Enterprise) offer an upselling feature that enhances the shopping cart and boosts your conversion rate. Help customers find products they love by recommending top-selling and related products directly from their shopping cart.
Slide Cart offers two types of upsell, Basic and Advanced, and you can choose two display options: Inside Cart (Default) and Next To Cart. Below, you will find a step-by-step guide to set up each one of these features.
Keep in mind that both upsell modules should not be enabled simultaneously since they might not work as expected. We will explain how to use both modules in the Advance upsells section.
Basic upsells
This module will allow you to choose up to five products to display in the Slide Cart, regardless of the product the customers add.
To set it up, click on the Features tab on the app's dashboard and select Upsell (Always On Upsells). You can choose the products you want to show by scrolling to Upsell items.
Once you have selected your products, check the Enable basic upsell box and Save your settings to make the upsells live.
By default, Slide Cart will display the upsells in a carousel, but you can easily change this configuration in the app's dashboard if you would like to stack them by checking the option Stack upsells instead of carousel.
Here you can see the difference between Carousel and Stacking:

Other options
- Show upsell item even when in cart: enabling this option allows you to continue displaying the upsell products you configured even if the customer has already added them to the cart in their order.
- Link upsell to product page instead of adding: If this option is enabled, clicking on the "ADD" button of the upsell will redirect the customer to the product page instead of adding the product to the cart.
Reorganize your upsells: you can also reorganize the order in which the upsell products are presented using the table's drag handles.
Advanced Upsells
This feature will allow you to link two specific products, so when one is added to the cart, the other will display in the upsell section.
To set it up, click on the Features tab on the app's dashboard and select Advanced Upsell (Rules Based Upsells).
Scroll down to Create Upsell and:
- In Trigger, click on "Select product," choose the product, and add it by clicking on the "Add" button. This will be the trigger product. When this is added to the cart, the Upsell product will be displayed.
- In Upsell, click on "Select product" again and choose the product you want to link. This will be the product displayed once the trigger product is added to the cart.
Don't forget to enable the module and save your settings.
Other Options
- Use basic upsells as a fallback: If you would like to use the Advanced upsells in conjunction with Basic Upsells, please enable the option "Use basic upsells as a fallback" in the Advanced Upsells section:
This will display any items you have set up in the Basic upsell module when no Advanced upsell item has been added to the cart. Don't enable both modules at the same time, since the upsells might not work as expected.
- Recommendation api fallback: The Advanced module also offers the option to use the Shopify Recommendation API to recommend a product even if you have not created an upsell for the item in the cart. The API recommendations are based on the purchase history of the product, the product description (only available to merchants with an English storefront), and related collections. If you want to get more information, you can read Shopify's help doc in this link.
- Display upsell when already in cart: enabling this option allows you to continue displaying the upsell products you configured even if the customer has already added them to the cart in their order.
Display Options
Both the Basic and Advanced modules allow you to choose two options to display your upsells in your store.
Option 1: Inside Cart (Default)
With this option, your upsells will appear inside the cart.
Option 2: Next to Cart
This option allows you to take advantage of the full screen by displaying your upsells outside the cart when customers browse on their laptops or desktops. For a better shopping experience, when the screen gets too small (mobile, tablets, etc.), the upsells will default back to inside the cart.
